Are you in a blogging slump?

Are you in a blogging slump? Here are 3 tips to help you conquer it!

We’ve all been there. A deadline is looming ahead of us and we are absolutely BLANK with nothing to say! Or it’s just your weekly Wednesday post and you are having a hard time planning supper, let alone writing a 500 word post.

We start thinking:

  • maybe I should take a blogging break
  • maybe I should watch a webinar
  • maybe I have nothing to say anyway
  • maybe I should give up blogging altogether

If you have thought any of those thoughts (I know I have), then please read on. If you haven’t then this is a great time to get a nice malted milk shake!

#1 Take time with the Lord

When was the last time you spent some good time with the Lord? I know that if I have nothing to give it is probably because I have not allowed the Lord to fill me up.

“But I’ve got this deadline, I don’t have time to spend with God right now.”

Years ago I read a book on Martin Luther and he said this:

“I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.”

YIKES!! But that attitude had a big impact on me. We so often get things wrong and allow our busyness to dictate our time with God, when it should be the other way around. Our time with God, as our FIRST priority, should control the busyness of our lives. When our minds are centered in the heart and mind of God, we see our lives in a broader perspective and with eternal eyes. We are filled with the power and vision of the Spirit and with strength to carry out the Lord’s calling on our lives that day.

#2 Write from what you know

No one's life is too ordinary to not be an encouragement to someone else!

  • What are the things you are learning lately?
  • What have you seen in scripture?
  • What conversations have you had with your husband?
  • What conversations have you had with your children?

When we look at what is going on in our lives, we can actually find some sweet things to share with others in our blog posts. Sure, we want that viral post, that one that will be shared on the Mega Bloggers sites. But is that really why you are writing? Don’t you want your focus to be more real and down-to-earth than that? Nothing wrong with going viral, but if we are stymied because we are looking for that spectacular post that the world will stop breathing to read, we might be waiting a really long time!

There is so much going on in your life right now. Great stuff, even if on the ordinary seeming side. God is working in and through you. You are touching lives just by your following Jesus. These are great things to share and bless others with!

Your new bathroom redesign.
The dress you sewed for your daughter’s doll.
The visit to the hospital to encourage a friend.
That new recipe that was a huge hit with the children.

These are all things that will encourage others, help and teach them new things! Give them a deeper view of who we are in Christ. Go for it!

Are you thinking your everyday life is too ordinary to share? It isn't!

#3 Write from where you fail

Well, this ends up being where I live, folks! I have found, over the years, that I blow it so much! And, consequently, when I share my failings with others, they tend to be quite encouraged. I’m not exactly sure why, but I’ve found this to be a fact.

So, when you have fallen off the healthy eating wagon for the 12th time today, maybe you could share about your struggles in a blog post. When your house is out of control and the children have had cereal 3 days in a row, you can share your concerns and longings in a blog post.

Let’s face it, the more transparent we are, the more we allow the Spirit to work through us with HIS power.

And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 2 Cor 12:9

Now, I realize that there is a desire in all of us to put our best foot forward. None of us want to look like we don’t have it all together. I’m here to tell you, dear, that WE DON’T! I don’t for sure. There are some days that I’m just a wreck. And while I would like to be a spiritual giant for you to admire, the reality is that I am a very ordinary woman with very ordinary failings and struggles. And I know that when I am transparent, you get to see PAST me and see Jesus IN me.

The truth is, I don’t want you looking at me with admiration. I want you looking at me and saying, “Wow, if Jesus can change HER, then He can change ME!” I would rather boast in my weakness so that you can see the power of Jesus in my life. THAT’S where real encouragement comes from: the Living Water of our Risen Savior!

Are you fearful to be transparent? Let Jesus be seen through your weakness.

May the Lord fill you with His mind, reveal His glory in your ordinary life and shine through the transparency of sharing your struggles as you bless others with His truth!
